Center for Human Immunobiology

Overview of Services

Serving as a central hub with bi-directional spokes emanating throughout Texas Children's Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine (BCM), William T. Shearer Center for Human Immunobiology (WTS-CHI) enables investigations and discoveries that will translate into high-impact biology and novel approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric disease.

The overarching goal is to create essential synergy with existing emphasis centers in genetics/genomics, international medicine and cellular therapy so that the WTS-CHI will develop into a key ingredient in uniquely accelerating discovery and innovation at Texas Children's and BCM.

At our flow cytometry section, we have the capacity to analyze 18 color samples on our Fortessa analyzer. We also have a cell sorter , ARIA II with the same configeration of the cytometer. Side by side our imaging flow cytometer (ImageStream Mark II) can run a 9 color sample. We also have data analysis softwares Kaluza, FlowJo for flow cytometric data and "Ideas" to analyze data from Image Stream. Softwares and instruments are free to use. Please contact the unit directors for details.

At our microscopy unit we have a Leica SP8 Stimulated Emission Depletion 3X (STED) Super Resolution Microscope that enables up to 50 nm optical resolution in x, y and 150nm optical resolution in z dimensions coupled with a resonant scanner and four Hybrid Detectors (HyD).

At our PCR station, we have a QuantStudio 3 & 5.

Additionally our image analysis room provides access to computers with active licenses for Volocity, FlowJo X, Kaluza, Stata, Ideas, Image J and Adobe Photoshop for image enhancement and analysis.
Software and Instruments are free to use, training is required and will be provided by the core.
